OMG - What happened???

Firstly, thanks to Rob for leading us on a fantastic magical mystery birthday trip. He even arranged the weather perfectly (though the wind did stop me in my tracks a couple of times, & almost blew me off the North Shore section).

What we did - We climbed to the top of White\\\'s Level, then did the black run from there.

We rode back up the firetrack to the top of White\\\'s Level again, then did White\\\'s Level \\\"main\\\" trail back down to the bottow of the black run.

Then - for a change - we rode all the way up the firetrack back to the top of White\\\'s Level.

We then did Skyline. Not all of it. We took the 1st \\\"official\\\" shortcut after \\\"Granada\\\" onto \\\"Fast Forward\\\". Up until this point, everything was going just fine \\\'though John had had an \\\"off\\\" earlier, leaving some of his elbow skin behind. I have no idea what happened - probably caught a pedal on the bank, back wheel slid out & I hit a stone/phone/Vaseline tin/other pocket object very hard with my left thigh. \\\"Deary me\\\", I thought. Or words to that effect.

Totally deadlegged and almost unable to pedal, I carried on - fortunately mostly downhill until - wait for it - the killer climb before the final Skyline descent. Teeth gritted, I crawled up at a snail\\\'s pace whilst the others patiently waited at the top.

Final descent - and - go for it attitude. Near the bottom of \\\"Peregrine Ridge\\\", I went for it, f@**&d-up a small, easy jump and landed very hard - on my right thigh. Ouch I said, whilst checking whether I could even stand. I could, as it turned out, but not by a great margin.

Fortunately, almost all downhill singletrack from here. Apart from the killer concrete ramp just before the centre. I just about made it upstairs to the cafe, but it was a close thing.

Driving home, was problematic insofar as being unable to lift my leg/foot up to the clutch pedal. A situation not made any better by the protracted car parking on the M4 following the match in Cardiff. It took 3 hrs to get home. Bliss.

This morning, \\\'cos neither leg was working properly, I managed to put my back out. So I\\\'m now a doubled-over cripple. Go on, ask me if I had a good time today.

Injuries aside, it was a truly excellent day. Many thanks to Rob, Vicky, Steve, Viv, John & Nigel for the company during the day.

Some exciting stats to finish off with...

Total time - 4hrs 46mins
Riding Time - 2hrs 47mins
Distance covered - 30.2km
Max speed - 34.5k/hr
(Moving) Av speed - 10.8k/hr
Total vertical ascent - 967m
My HRM says I burned 3310 cals.
400mg Ibuprofen tablets work quite well

Would have been 5 stars but for the pain!
